Details can make or break your outfit or piece of clothing. the details I ALWAYs tend to be fixated on. The fabric, it’s texture color and how it feels or the cut of a tee-shirt (I am very fussy about my tee-shirts—I obsess on the fit, cut, where the sleeve cut’s my arm and the feel of the cotton). Details make an outfit work, a jacket fit, and embody a designer’s aesthetic and craft. A detail I am quite in to is the frayed edge of garments this fall. A frayed hem adds quite a bit of character to a piece of clothing and a touch of texture to an over all look–it also keeps your outfit from being too perfect –adding the whole modern ‘I didn’t try hard’ touch. It’s nice to look effortlessly amazing..no?

Calvin Klein, Altuzurra, Organic by John Patrick, and one of my favorite collections of the season Marques’ Almeida kept the edges of their garments unkempt and a bit raw (click on images above). Others, like Céline showed jackets accented with trims of frayed fabrics, using the fray as some what of an embellishment.
The trend is also apparent on the street (see below). I do not know why but I am really in to the way the subtle fray looks..
I got a bit crazy after seeing these shows and took the scissor to 3 pairs of jeans and tried to do the same with one of my denim jackets (however it was very hard to cut through the denim some how I did). I found out how to fray properly here. The next garment that will be trimmed will be my grey sweat shirt and maybe one of my old button shirts (I really love the way the one above looks). Cotton is a great fabric to fray with..!
