kate moss, 90’s, always inspiring

bianca jagger

so this is my second day of mixing denims. below are some variations of using the same pieces in different ways. since i have been in the country for a majority of this summer, away from my studio and wardrobe/accessory collection, i am creating different looks reusing the staple pieces i have with me. the truth is, i tend to wear the same types of pieces and specific pieces every day, even when i am at home in NYC. once i come across a garment that i find comfortable and fits well i reuse them countlessly in different ways.

i also think, as a stylist, or someone who loves fashion and creating ‘looks’, it essential to know how to create different looks with a few pieces of clothing. to make the same pieces of clothing look different each time i add accessories. accessories can really make  a ‘look’, and redefine the clothing they are put together with. i find the accessories to be the most important pieces in changing a look, and or dressing an outfit up or down. the jewelry alone can completely change the dressiness, or style of the outfit.

as a shopper, stylist, and someone who enjoys getting dressed and dressing others, i find the accessories to be the key pieces in expressing a person’s individual style or a fashion brands vision.  accessories complete ensembles and can change everything from the shape of ones figure (the accessories being shoes), or leg of a pant, to tying together different colors in an outfit (with a bag, shoe, jewelry or scarf)… this is why i tend to drop more money on bags, shoes and jewelry….anyways see below..

denim + leather

denim and leather is always a great combination. james dean comes to mind, the iconic image of him in a leather jacket white tee and jeans. The hell’angels also come to mind, the black leather motorcycle jacket and worn out denim pants. One of my favorite runway collections was Givenchy’s 2009 spring rtw collection where denim and leather were mixed in to the garments (see below).

i really love the juxtaposition of leather and denim in garments and outfits, alike. the color and textures work harmonically together and create, in my opinion, a genuine all american look. its an interesting diacotomy of hard and soft, not only in textures and fabrics, but also in the feeling an outfit made up of these two textiles can exude to the public…
